Government of Canada announces a new comprehensive drug strategy and legislative changes

On December 12, 2016, the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Health, announced the new Canadian Drugs and Substances Strategy (CDSS). The CDSS will replace the existing National Anti-Drug Strategy with a more balanced approach, restoring harm reduction as a core pillar of Canada’s drug policy alongside prevention, treatment and enforcement, and supporting all pillars with a strong evidence base.
